Introduction

Our research is based on the Virtrurian Man drawing by the well known artist Leonardo Da Vinci. This drawing is greatly influenced by a Roman engineer named Vitruvius. The Vitrurian Man consists of a man standing in a square which is enclosed in a circle. This illustrates Leonardo's theory that "man is the measure of all things". This theory suggest a series of measurements using the proportion of human body parts.

Some of the proportions given for the Virtrurian Man are:

  • The span of man's arms is equal to his height.
  • The length of forearm is equal to the length of foot.
  • The length of hand is equal to the length of face.
Our group has shown great interest in this topic. We decided to conduct a research on the relationship between the length of the forearm and the length of the foot.
